Committee to plan for improvement of Parliament

PARAMARIBO, Suriname–A committee consisting of 16 people has been appointed to draft a program for improvement of parliamentarians, the supporting organs and the institute of the National Assembly (DNA). The program will be executed over several years and be funded partially by the UN Development Program (UNDP). The committee will draft the program in cooperation with experts from UNDP.

A press release from the National Assembly reports that the members of the Committee are: Drs. Jennifer Simons (chair), Mr. Ruth Wijdenbosch, Ricardo Panka, Mr. Radjkoemar Randjietsingh, Ronnie Brunswijk, Slamet P. Somohardjo, Drs. Ronny Asabina, Carl Breeveld, Noreen Cheung BSc., Drs. Guno Castelen, Henk Ramnandanlal MSc., Drs. Asiskumar Gajadien, Martha Djojoseparto, Diana Pokie, Mr. Marcia Burleson (Parliament Recorder), Ruth de Windt (Substitute-Recorder), Anne Menes (Head of the Finance Department of the National Assembly).

The press release also reports that the presentations and workshops aimed at strengthening capacity at DNA, will continue. Parliamentarians have already followed presentations on Climate Change, Housing, Personal Leadership, Change Management, State Budget and Paramaribo Zoning Planning. Scheduled for next Friday is a presentation on “The Economy Outlined”, at which the macro economy matters relating to Parliamentary work will be explained.
