Suralco gives buildings to users
PARAMARIBO–Bauxite miner Suralco has transferred ownership of several its plots and buildings at Billiton and Smalkalden to religious organizations including the Roman Catholics, the Moravian church and the Muslim Community, as well as the Cultural Center Suriname (CCS).
The organizations had enjoyed the free use of these properties for decades; now they become their legal possession to commemorate Suralco’s 95th anniversary in Suriname. It’s is the first time that Suralco has handed over plots and buildings it has built itself to their users.
These plots are part of plantations the bauxite company had bought for its activities and now that these activities have ended, the land has been returned to the community.
