Photo moment: Suriname Ambassador meets Chinese President

BEIJING–Lloyd Pinas, Suriname’s new ambassador to China on Monday August 15 presented his credentials to Chinese President Hu Jintao. “The presentation in the “Great Hall of the People” lasted less than eight minutes. After the presentation I had a short meeting with His Excellency the President, during which he sent his regards to President Desi Bouterse,” Pinas said. The ambassador said Jintao expressed hopes that China through its Government owned companies can lend a helping hand to the economic development of Suriname. His Excellency President Jintao also hinted that the fact that Pinas speaks Mandarin fluently and has insights into the cultural peculiarities of China should be an exceptional asset in the strengthening of diplomatic, cultural and economic relationships between our two countries.

Visiting Chinese official wants strong ties with Suriname

PARAMARIBO–Chen Fengxiang, vice head of Communist Party of China (CPC) has said that his party attaches great importance to its relations with the National Democratic Party of Suriname. During his meeting with President Desi Bouterse, Chen expressed hopes the two countries would keep close ties and strengthen cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.

The senior official who heads the International Department under the CPC Central Committee met with President Desi Bouterse on Monday to boost bilateral ties. Chinese press agency Xinhua reports that Bouterse said Suriname will continue to foster the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and parties. The President also mentioned China’s increasingly important role in global politics and economy and the Chinese population living in the South American country.

During his three-day visit that started Monday, Chen also met the Chairlady of the National Assembly, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons and other senior government officials. He will also visit Guyana, Barbados and Dominica.

Chinese top politician to visit

BEIJING — A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) left Beijing Friday to visit Suriname, said a statement from the International Department under the CPC Central Committee. Chen Fengxiang, vice head of the department, will also visit Guyana, Barbados and Dominica from February 25 to March 12.

Chen was invited by the National Democratic Party of Suriname, the People’s Progressive Party of Guyana, the Democratic Labour Party of Barbados and Dominica Labour Party.

China offers to finance bridges over Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana border rivers

PARAMARIBO-The People’s Republic of China has offered to finance the construction of bridges that will span the Corantine and Marowijne rivers, the rivers that form the natural borders between Suriname and Guyana (in the west) and Suriname and French Guiana (east). Suriname Minister of Public Works reported this to online news medium GFC Nieuws, on his return from China on Friday November 12th.

The Minister said that during his negotiations with the Dalian Holding Company -which has already carried out extensive infrastructural and repaving works in Suriname- agreement was reached that the company would finance the construction of 5,000 low budget houses. “China” also agreed to provide the loan for repaving the road to the Johan Adolf Pengel airport at Zanderij, and several other roads in the country, GFC Nieuws reported.
